The short version

  • We use your information to find, track, and manage your subscriptions, and for nothing unrelated to that.
  • We do not sell your personal information, share it for targeted advertising, or show ads.
  • We contact providers only for requests you make. Where permitted, we may act as the account holder to complete them, and we log in with your credentials only with your express permission for that request.
  • You can disconnect your bank or inbox, or delete your data, at any time.

3How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • detect and display your subscriptions, recurring charges, and budgets;

  • carry out cancellation, bill negotiation, and refund requests you make;
  • power the AI assistant and our AI-based subscription detection;

  • fix bugs, monitor performance, and understand which features are used, in aggregate;
  • prevent fraud, secure the Services, and comply with law; and
  • process payments once paid plans launch.

AI processing

AskJoy uses AI models from Anthropic to read transactions and emails for subscription details, answer your questions, and help complete requests. Anthropic processes this data as our service provider under contract and does not use it to train its models. AI can make mistakes, so you can review any action before you approve it.

What we never do

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it for targeted advertising, show ads, or earn affiliate fees. We do not send marketing texts. We do not use your financial or email data to build profiles for anyone else.

4How we share information

We share personal information only as described here.

Subscription providers

When you ask us to cancel, negotiate, or request a refund, we share with that provider the details needed to identify your account and complete the request.

Legal and safety

We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of AskJoy, our users, or others.

Business transfers

If AskJoy is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may transfer to the new owner, who must honor this Policy for data collected before the transfer.

With your consent

We share information for other purposes only with your permission. We may share aggregated or de-identified data that cannot reasonably identify you.

5Email data (Gmail and Outlook)

If you connect an inbox, AskJoy requests only the permissions needed to find subscription-related messages, and only after you approve them on Google’s or Microsoft’s consent screen.

  • Use. We use email data only to identify subscriptions, receipts, renewals, and billing changes, and to power features you have turned on.
  • No ads or sale. We never use email data for advertising, and never sell it.
  • Human access. AskJoy staff do not read your email unless you ask us to (for example, for support), it is needed for security or to comply with law, or it has been aggregated and anonymized.
  • Transfers. We share email data only with service providers that help run these features, such as Anthropic, under confidentiality obligations, or as required by law.
  • Google data. AskJoy’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
  • Revoking access. Disconnect your inbox in AskJoy settings or in your Google or Microsoft security settings. We then stop accessing it and delete the email data we stored, as described in Section 6.

6How long we keep information

7Security

We protect information with safeguards that include encryption in transit and at rest, access limited to staff who need it, and monitoring for unauthorized access. Plaid handles your bank login, so AskJoy never receives or stores your bank password. No system is completely secure. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.

You may use an authorized agent with your signed permission. We will not treat you differently for exercising these rights. If we deny a request, you can appeal by replying to our decision, and we will respond within 45 days.

Text messages

Reply STOP to any AskJoy text to stop texts, or HELP for help. We send only account messages, never marketing.

California residents

California law gives you the rights above, plus the right to know the categories of personal information we collect (Section 2), its sources, why we use it (Section 3), and who receives it (Section 4). We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and have not done so in the past 12 months. We use sensitive personal information, such as account credentials and financial account data, only to provide the Services you request.

Washington residents

We extend the rights above to Washington residents. AskJoy does not collect consumer health data covered by Washington’s My Health My Data Act.

Other states

Residents of other states with privacy laws, such as Oregon, Colorado, Virginia, and Texas, may have similar rights. We honor them through the same process.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Because we do not sell or share data for advertising, these browser signals do not change how we process your data.

9Children

The Services are not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from minors. If we learn we have, we will delete it. Contact legal@askjoynow.com if you believe a minor has used AskJoy.

10Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time and will post the new version with an updated effective date. For material changes, we will notify you by email or in the app before they take effect. We will not use information we already collected in a materially different way without your consent.
