Here’s exactly what happens.
No settings to learn. No new app to figure out. Connect your statements once, and Joy takes it from there — checking regularly, telling you plainly what it finds, and handling it however you decide.
1
Connect your statements and email — once.
Two things do most of the work: your bank or credit card statements, and your email. Together, they catch almost everything — recurring charges, receipts, trial notices. For a small number of services, Joy may ask for one more secure connection to get the full picture. Whatever you connect, Joy can only read it — never move money, send anything, or make a purchase.
2
Joy checks them regularly — not just once.
This isn’t a one-time scan. Joy keeps an eye on new charges as they come in, the same way you’d notice if you were reading every statement line by line — except you don’t have to.
3
Joy tells you plainly what it found.
No jargon. No burying it in a menu. Just what it is, what it costs, and what Joy thinks is worth a second look.
Joy: I found a BritBox charge for $8.99/month. Looks like it started after a one-time movie rental five months ago. Want me to cancel it?
Yes, cancel it Not now
4
You decide — and Joy handles it the right way for that company.
Not every company works the same way, so cancelling looks a little different depending on where the charge is coming from. Either way, you’re never the one stuck figuring out which it is.
Instant
Joy cancels it right away and confirms it’s done.
Joy contacts them for you
For companies that don’t offer a self-serve cancel button, Joy’s team contacts them directly as your authorized representative — verified with a few details you provide once — and handles it without you needing to get on a call.
A phone call
A smaller number of companies won’t act on a request unless you’re on the line yourself. For those, Joy preps exactly what to say, or gets on the call with you.
5
Joy checks back.
A few weeks later, Joy looks again to make sure the charge is actually gone — not just that a company said it would be. If it’s still there, Joy flags it again instead of assuming it worked.
What Joy can and can’t do
Joy will never move your money or make a purchase — that’s simply not something this service does, no exceptions. What it can do, always with your go-ahead first: read your statements and flag what it finds, cancel a subscription directly where a company allows it, or help you through the ones that require a call.
Nothing gets cancelled or changed without your say-so.
